Chuck Hagel Chuck Hagel Chuck Hagel Charles Timothy "Chuck" Hagel (born October 4, 1946) is the senior United States Senator from Nebraska. A member of the Republican Party, he was first elected in 1996 and was reelected in 2002. He is a potential candidate for the 2008 presidential election, possibly as an independent.

Biography: Born October 4, 1946, in North Platte, Nebraska. Married to Lilibet Ziller in 1985. Two children, Allyn, their daughter, and Ziller, their son.
Education: Graduated from St. Bonaventure High School (now Scotus Central Catholic High School) in Columbus, NE and the Brown Institute for Radio and Television in 1966 and from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1971.
Profession: Staffer for Congressman John Y. McCollister until 1977. Lobbyist for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. Co-founded Vanguard Cellular, a mobile phone manufacturer. President and chief executive officer of several organizations (United Service Organizations, McCarthy Group, an investment banking firm, American Information Systems Inc.).
Political career: In 1996, he ran for the US Senate and won against Ben Nelson, in Nebraska. Member of four Senate committees: Foreign Relations; Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; the Select Committee on Intelligence and the Committee on Rules and Administration.
